Anjuan Simmons: Would President Obama Need More Secret Service Protection?

  • Kevin D. Hendricks · 1 year ago
Seems like a no-brainer to me. The level of security should match the level of the threat. It's not an issue of fairness--all presidents should get the same treatment, it's a matter of protection.

Kind of like in a war--you decide the size of your fighting force based on who you're fighting, not what you did in the last war.

    Kevin,
Thanks for the comment as well as the post on your blog. Your point is well said: there is no "one size fits all" approach to protecting the President of the United States. However, some people (as seen in the comments on my YouTube post) obviously disagree.

You know what? I recant my earlier position on this topic. Previously, I had said that If Mr. Obama were elected, he should receive no more or less protection than any other president. At the time, this seemed like a tenable position, but after reading Mr. Hendricks's comment, I'm going with what he said. The amount of protection should be equal to the amount of threat, as would be true for any president. That kind of is what I meant the first time, but Mr. Hendricks put it much better than I did.
